Are online history courses really worth the hype?

With so many online history courses available, it can be difficult to determine which ones are truly valuable. Those looking to study specific historical events or eras might feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of options. What makes a course stand out in terms of quality content and engaging delivery?

Have any of you taken online history courses that you found particularly insightful? What elements should I consider when assessing course structure or checking instructor credentials? I’d also love to hear your recommendations for platforms that create a fantastic learning experience!

I took an online course on World War II that really blew me away! It had tons of primary sources to explore, which made everything feel so real. I’d check if the instructors have published work in that area, too; it usually means they’re really knowledgeable. For platforms, I found Coursera and edX pretty solid.
